Barrel Lamps From New Duivendrecht Shine Vibrant
The Barrel Lamp and Baby Barrel Lamp are modeled after old WWII searchlights but their style is decidedly modern. Crafted from wood, concrete and steel, the lines are sleek yet sturdy. The lights are designed by Nieuwe Heren for the Dutch design group, New Duivendrecht. Taking the form from history’;s searchlights, they created a model that easily fits into today’;s lifestyle. The wooden slats and overall shape direct the light, while the spaces between the slats create a warm glow around the edges. They remind us of the glory days of Hollywood and the searchlights that were used to announce a movie premier in the heyday of film. The tripod that the Barrel Lamp sits on is made of cement for a sturdy base and can be positioned in either of two orientations. While the lamp is enough of a statement (either size!) to stand alone, wouldn’;t they look great in a group? Perhaps all pointed at one spectacular piece of art in a loft apartment? Everything old is new again.
These lamps throw interesting light.
